Online Therapy for Autistic Teens and Their Families
Puberty seems like it hit your family like a truck.
As a parent, you are already struggling with school and social interactions. It’s a challenge to get the endless chores and homework done. You don’t know how to get anything done anymore.
Everything you try is met with more resistance, and you are tired of fighting.
Your child is sinking and ignoring all the life preservers you send them. If they’ve developed friends, you are happy they have some social interaction, but you aren’t exactly sure you like the crowd they are hanging around. You’re a little worried about the influence they are having.
Your kid, who always grappled with being different, seems more aware of this, and it’s a hard realization for them.
The anxiety seems to have worsened with every passing year, and they seem so sensitive to any possible rejection by other kids or even you. You feel yourself walking on eggshells and hoping and praying that everything goes well at school.
You don’t know how to help or even understand what they are going through. You feel helpless.
If you need help for your Autistic teen and your family,
Hope for Your Autistic Teen and Your Family
You want to help your child but you just aren’t sure how. They seem to be struggling with making friends or with managing the demands of staying focused or organized. You want to help them, but it doesn’t seem like anything you do works. You try hard to say the “right” thing, but you feel like you don’t speak their language. You love them and don’t want to see them struggle.
I’m Margot, and as a therapist specializing in neurodiverse families, I am here to help. I work with you as a whole family as well as one-on-one with your teen.
WHAT WE’LL DO TOGETHER
Our work together will focus on three key areas:
Supporting your teen
Your teen and I will work together to learn coping and social skills. They will learn ways to feel better about the things bothering them. I create a safe space for your child to learn about themselves and learn how to listen to their gut. They will develop communication skills with you and others when things feel overwhelming.
Guiding you as parents
I will work with you as the parents to better understand what is happening with your child. We will look at what is age-appropriate and what is their neurodivergence. Together we will work to determine your child's needs so that you can figure out how to meet them.
I will help you learn how to support your child and teach them to care for themself so they can be the best adult they can be.
Building a strong family unit
I will also meet with your family as a whole. Together we will work to make the household somewhere everyone can live peacefully. We will problem-solve any issues that are coming up consistently in the household. We will give each person in the home a safe space to express their feelings.
As your family therapist for your autistic teen, I provide:
A place for everyone to understand each other better
A place to learn about their own needs and the needs of the rest of the family
A space to safely express your feelings, including worries and concerns for other family members
An environment where you can work out and problem-solve any bumps the family is running into as a whole
